Tsien Symposium: Biosensors and Dynamic Imaging

In front of the incredible complexity of the biological processes taking place in a living organisms, real-time measurement methods have always proved indispensable. We have witnessed in the last few years a tremendous development of biosensing proteins which now allow direct probing of biological events in living cells, tissue and even animal, thus radically changing our way of approaching biomedical questions. Roger Y. TSIEN, Nobel prize in Chemistry 2008, presented his pioneering work in this domain, and other speakers of international renown described biosensors specific of various types of signals and their use in biology. This symposium provided thus an update on what will soon be routine experiment in many laboratories studying cell biology. This symposium discussed prospective use of these methods in the the context of a living animal: what the current obstacles are and what can be imagined to overcome them. At this occasion, Dr. Serge Maîtrejean presented a talk on the protocols that are now possible thanks to the Photon Imager.
