Planar scintigraphy

Tumor detection and characterization
Tumor imaging by means of 111In complexes functionalized with glutamine residues. The Gamma Imager planar scintigraphy mode can offer an easy, fast and reliable way to screen a high number of drug and/or contrast agent candidates.

Drug development

Scintigraphic imaging of B16 melanoma bearing C57BL6 mice with 125I-UMR12. 131I-UMR12 administered intravenously in B16 melanoma-bearing C57BL6 mice induced a significant regression in tumoural growth and a lengthening in median survival time from 32 days (controls) to 39 days (treated). A potential therapeutic efficiency was exhibited.

Acquisition was performed on 3 mouse hinds and one mouse hind control. Data were confirmed a posteriori with ex vivo quantification of the drug biodistribution. Courtesy of Dr. Zhang, Millenium Pharma.

Micro SPECT and micro SPECT/CT

Abdominal aortic aneurism revealed by 99mTc Annexin V
The sub-renal aortic aneurysm was induced by pancreatic porcine elastase infusion in this Lewis rat. Two weeks after infusion, 99mTc Annexin V was injected in the animal, before SPECT acquisition.
99mTc Annexin V specifically binds to phosphatidylserine (PS) that are expressed on the surface of activated platelets and apoptotic cells. This specificity explains the interest of this tracer for detection of thrombus-related disease. Indeed, the luminal side of the thrombi is permanently renewed with new platelets which get activated and display PS on their surface.
The aneurysm is clearly visible, between the kidneys and the bladder. Courtesy of L. Sarda-Mantel, D. Leguludec and JB. Michel, Nuclear Medicine Department, Bichat Hospital, Paris, France

SPECT bone imaging
3D reconstruction of the rat bone structure, acquired on a rat after injection of 99mTc-MDP tracer. The data were obtained with a 2 hour-acquisition.
99mTc-MDP is commonly used for skeletal scintigraphy or for bone metastases detection.

Hepato-cellular carcinoma in rat
Hepato-cellular carcinoma chemically induced in a rat, revealed by scintigraphy. The 3D reconstruction of this micro SPECT/CT acquisition clearly shows the good specificity of the tracer, and the interest of the micro SPECT/CT technique for the follow up of the disease model.

Follow up of cancer therapy on mouse

Effects of chemotherapy imaged with 99mTc-TcO4. The mouse was treated by chemotherapy during 3 weeks (weeks 2, 3 and 4).
Left: The effects are visible on the tumors; 3 weeks post treatment, a restart of the tumor development is observed.
